Weekly Astrological Insights: February 15-21, 2010

Monday, February 15

Today’s Pisces Moon can help us connect into the aqueous dimensions of our imagination, using it as a source of inspiration for better understanding a situation that we are facing. With Mars and Saturn making a harmonious alignment, we have extra support taking this newfound understanding and transforming it into determined and efficient action.

Today, Venus conjuncts Jupiter in Pisces.

Venus attracts. Jupiter highlights all it touches. Pisces loves and longs for.

Instead of trying to capture some of the day’s essence in words, I thought I’d turn to the mic over to Dusty Springfield—the chanteuse with Moon and Venus in Pisces opposite Neptune, Pisces ruling planet—as she sings her siren song, The Look of Love.

Take a listen.
It will take you away.
To the ocean of emotion that infused in today.

Do you know the myth of Chiron?

This centaur—a half-man/horse—was a god, the son of Saturn and the nymph Philyra. Abandoned as a child, he became an illuminated teacher of many, including Asclepius, the god of medicine.

One day, Chiron was accidentally injured by Heracles, whose poison-tainted arrow pierced the centaur’s leg, causing incurable and painful injury. Wrought with suffering, and unable to heal himself, Chiron renounced his immortality and in an act of sacrificial redemption, granted it to Prometheus. His mortality led to his release of body form and his death. Yet, in homage to his sacrifice and consciousness, Zeus elevated him to the sky where he remains immortal as a constellation of stars.

Archetypally and astrologically, Chiron represents the wounded healer within. While it represents a deep pain—a feeling of being cut off or abandoned—it is also that space that connects us deeply to humanity. It is the alchemical jewel that can serve as fodder for compassion and the experiential knowingness of how to be of service to others. It is through the learning experienced when we dive deep within our pain that we can connect to and help others in their own healing.

While during the past year, the asteroid Chiron has been a part of an illustrious planetary alignment, today it forms an exact conjunction with the planet Neptune. While this alignment will have distinct impacts upon each individual depending upon where it falls in our personal astrology chart, there is a general essence and energy being exuded that we can all tap into.

Chiron connecting with Neptune is intense on one level, etheric on another.  If we feel overwhelmed by deep hurts, we may choose to the Neptunian route of escape (aka via drink, drugs, shopping, or our getaway-of-choice). Yet, Neptune, if channeled clearly, can help us to also truly connect in with a place and space of deep unity—within ourselves, of ourselves and others. Through meditation and creative imagination exercises, we can help to discover other levels of our deep wounds, and how we may be able to release them. This Chiron/Neptune alignment can help inspire our spiritual quest as we discover not only a collective common ground, but a deeper soulfulness within.

In honor of the Sun entering Pisces today—joining Venus, Jupiter, and Uranus in the sign of the Fishes—instead of prose, I share with you a haiku  poem:

Pisces. Poetic
Lyrical soulful longings.
Feelings streaming through.

The I’s are the We’s.
Separate but together.
Love binds and enshrines.

Put your fins on. Float.
Surrender to the currents.
Wave to the shore. Home.

Soul seeks, remembers
So’ham: I am that I am.
And knows Namaste.

Do you feel pulled in two directions? Does what feels good seem at odds with what you feel pulled towards doing?

See if you can sit with and meditate upon these seemingly conflicting desires. Within the space of just allowing yourself to be with both of them may exist the jewel of insight that allows for the knowingness of how, in fact, they may less at odds, and more unified, than you previously thought.

Today, with the Moon in Taurus,
Is a great day to honor and nurture our body.

Remembering that it is:
A Temple.
A Wonderland.

As the Moon squares Mercury in Aquarius, we can tune into how our bodies are not just beautiful compositions of sinewy matter, but also containers of energy, body electrics.

And as the Sun—along with Venus, Jupiter, and Uranus—are in Pisces, we are also reminded that our bodies are numinous. As a touchstone for this notion, we can turn to the words of Walt Whitman who at the end of his poem I Sing the Body Electric—which glorifies the body in all its forms—declares:

“O I say these are not the parts and poems of the body only, but of the soul, O I say now these are the soul!”

Sunday, February 21

Today, the Pisces Sun is aspected by the Gemini Moon, setting up a bit of tension since Pisces feels it can just “know” while Gemini butterflies about in the quest of “knowing” by gathering facts and figures. Yet, while their energies are distinct—the water sign Pisces strives for compassion-filled unity while the air sign Gemini inspires desire to learn and understand—they do share commonalities.

Both Pisces and Gemini are considered mutable signs, meaning that they are flexible and adaptable. Also, each embodies dyad energy—Pisces representing the two Fish, Gemini, the two Twins.

Inherent within is a push-pull in two (or sometimes seemingly numerous) directions. Yet, instead of splitting, of casting out certain aspects of our selves in order to claim others, what these signs can impart within us is the ideal of synthesis.

A good image for today is the Tao. It is composed of both yin and yang, seemingly opposite forces. Yet, both need to be present, co-exist, for existence to flourish. Using this as a reflection, we can look within our lives to see where varying urges may reside and see how we may synthesize them into a more complete whole.
