January 8, 2012: Cancer Full Moon (exact at 11:30 pm PST)

On this Full Moon we can gain insights into the ways we contribute to both the world and the people to whom we are closest. We may also be better able to understand the role with which are mainly identified (both by ourselves and others). Is it the work we do, the family we nurture, the relationships that we tend, and/or other things that carve out our identity and bring us nurturance? During this Full Moon, we can gain a greater sense of how we feel about the legacy we are creating and whether it truly aligns with our deepest needs and desires.

We may feel extra sensitive today and experience a heightened need to feel safe, secure, and taken care of. At the same time, we may perceive that this conflicts with a desire to be a bedrock of strength for others. As such, it’s important to remember to own and express our feelings and that stating our needs is not a reflection of weakness but of internal strength.

Also today, Mercury connects in to both Jupiter and Uranus, inspiring communications that can lead to greater understanding, even if what we learn is not what we had expected. Opening our mind to learning in a different way or looking for information from alternative sources may do wonders for helping us to gain a new, and very valuable, perspective.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 19 degrees of Capricorn (Sun) and Cancer (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Capricorn, Cancer, or the other cardinal signs—Aries and Libra—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Capricorn is associated with the skeletal system, joints, and skin while Cancer is associated with the stomach, sinuses, and breasts. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this Full Moon.

Frankincense: Frankincense is one of the most sacred of scents and one that aligns beautifully with the sagacity of Capricorn. Used in temple ceremonies for ages, it can help us to open to the mysteries of life as well as the cycles of creation and manifestation. Using it in a diffuser, adding some to a mister bottle of water to scent a room, or mixing it with a few drops of plain body oil and applying it as a perfume are some great ways to enjoy it. It’s also a great tonic for helping to support Capricorn-related rheumatic health so mix a drop or two with plain lotion, massaging it into your muscles, paying particular attention to your joints.

Honeysuckle flower essence: With the Moon in Cancer, we may find that the past has a pincer grip on us, just like the claws of a crab, the symbol for Cancer. When this happens, it can lead to a reduction in vitality, disturbing our ability to maintain the sense of presence required to fully participate in the present. If you need some energetic assistance releasing the shrouds of wistfulness and making peace with the past, consider trying Honeysuckle flower essence. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

January 22, 2012: Aquarius New Moon (exact at 11:39 pm PST)

During this New Moon in Aquarius we may find ourselves turning some of our attention from our personal lives to larger collective issues. Inherent within, there’s a knowingness that we are not separate, that a connection unites us to those we hear or read about around the globe. If there were a theme song for the day, “We Are the World”—the 1985 pop-star-riddled ballad that raised money for humanitarian aid—may very well be it. The energetics of this day may readily inspire within us the awareness that we are not isolated beings, but rather global citizens, and that what happens on the other side of the world can feel as proximate–and relevant–as what is happening down the street.

With the Sun and Moon in square aspect to Jupiter, it’s important to keep our visions hopeful but also realistic. Be inspired by all that is possible, yet be careful not to let over-optimism get in the way of fulfilling upon your ideals. This is especially relevant today since Mars is about to go retrograde (until April 13) and a temporary recalibration of how we exert our energy and will is required (see post below on Mars retrograde for more details).

This month’s New Moon falls at 3 degrees of Aquarius (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Aquarius or the other fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Aquarius is associated with the calves, ankles, peripheral circulatory system, and the body’s bionergetics. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon.

Energetic healing: With Aquarius the sign ruling subtle energies and alternative approaches, enjoying a healing method that focuses on your body’s bio-energetic system may be especially powerful during this New Moon. Some practices to consider include reiki, qigong, and acupuncture.

Legs up the Wall (Viparita Karani): This gentle, restorative pose inspires calm and relaxation. It can provide benefit for the Aquarius-ruled calves and peripheral circulatory system as it helps to bring the blood flow from the lower legs back to the torso. To practice, sit on the floor with the right side of your body next to a wall and your legs bent and feet on the floor. Lie on your left side (perpendicular to the wall) and roll onto your back, bringing your legs straight up to rest against the wall. Scoot your buttocks forward so that they are as close to the wall as possible. Close your eyes and relax for at least five minutes.

January 23 – April 13, 2012: Mars Retrograde

Mars goes retrograde on January 23, a position it will retain until April 13. When a planet is retrograde the energy it represents is more internally focused than externally expressed.

Astrologically, Mars is the warrior planet that represents action, will, and determination. If we want to get or achieve something, Mars is the chariot that can help us to realize this accomplishment.

When Mars is retrograde, we can take the opportunity to reflect upon how we use our will. Does the way we set about getting things done truly help us meet our aims? Is our mode of pursuing our goals the most efficient and effective? Is the manner in which we express our passions and desires in sync with our heart’s intentions? These are appropriate questions to ask during this period.

What is also appropriate—and very important—is to find productive outlets for any anger you may feel. Given that energy is turned inward during a retrograde period, this may lead to a stifling of the expression of Mars—our anger and/or passion–which itself can lead to feelings of depression. So, make sure to find ways for moving martial energy; even a regular regimen of gentle exercise, such as walks and easy yoga or stretching, can be a great vehicle for this. This is important not only from an emotional wellness, but also physical health, perspective.

In medical astrology, Mars is related to circulation and the musculature, and Virgo–the sign in which this planet currently resides–is associated with the digestive system. Therefore, it’s a time when we may be prone to more gastrointestinal sluggishness and/or upset. Additionally, worry, frustration and Virgo-inspired self-criticism may tend to manifest in our gut, causing anything from butterflies to bloating, flatulence to irregularity. Finding ways to express our feelings and constructively channel our energy may help to alleviate GI imbalance.

During this retrograde period, Mars will travel from 24 degrees of Virgo to 4 degrees of Virgo. While it is an energetic expression to which we all connect, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree range in Virgo or the other mutable signs—Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces—it may impact you more intensely.

Mars Retrograde Apothecary Suggestions

Cardamom: A staple in the materia medica of Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, cardamom is a soothing carminative. One of its most common uses is for digestive health, including the relief of indigestion and flatulence. Make some chai to enjoy the flavor and benefits of this aromatic spice. Additionally, you could make simple cardamom tea by simmering 1-1/2 tsp of cardamom seeds in 12 ounces of water for 8-10 minutes and then adding 2 tsp lemon or orange juice, and a little bit of honey. Enjoying homemade curry dishes is another great way to enjoy cardamom as it’s usually a foundation spice in curry recipes. Cardamom is also available in essential oil form, which can be used in a diffusor or topically mixed with some plain oil or lotion.

Scarlet Monkeyflower flower essence: If we have challenges expressing our anger (often the case when Mars is retrograde), we sometimes think that by just ignoring or repressing it, the feelings will go away. Yet, that’s not usually the case; rather, they just churn within until, at some moment, they either seep out or we reach a full-fledged emotional explosion. If you want help accepting and embracing feelings of anger, as well as compassionate assistance to courageously communicate how you feel, Scarlet Monkeyflower flower essence may be of great value. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

December 10, 2011: Gemini Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (exact at 6:36 am PST)

Today’s Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse. Even if we can’t see an eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse signifies a time when things come to fruition. It portends an auspicious time to let go of something that is outworn, whether it be a possession, a habit, a limiting belief, or a relationship that doesn’t serve your highest good. Additionally, eclipses provide a great opportunity for outward manifestation with life-changing events—sometimes expected, sometimes not—often happening around this time.

Today’s Full Moon features the Sun in Sagittarius opposing the Moon in Gemini. We may feel ourselves caught in a push-pull between stepping back to gain perspective and focusing in to hone the pieces that make up the whole. Striking a balance is important. Remember not to lose the forest for the trees, yet don’t forsake the trees for the forest either; both are equally important.

If we can find a way to integrate the energies calling for our attention, the day can grace us with a significant opportunity for wisdom and learning. As we quest to become aware of the bigger picture, it’s important to remember to tap into facts and figures that can promote our greater understanding, rather than just taking off from a launch pad of vision and beliefs.

Yet, at the same time, it’s important to remember that it’s not just information that contributes to a sense of knowingness. We all have a deep sense of intuition that can guide us in charting the course of our life journey; we just need to have the faith that this resides within us.

There may be elements of rabble-rousing during this Eclipse time given that Uranus—the planet of innovation and the unexpected—stations direct just hours before the Eclipse’s exactitude. When a planet stations, its energy and archetypes become really loud and apparent. Some of the arenas associated with Uranus are electricity, earthquakes, and rebellion. When Uranus is strong, so may be the shocks that catch us off guard. Yet, these are the surprises that, if we look at them from a more detached perspective, may aid us in breaking up stagnant patterns that may have kept us in rote motion rather than fully expressed individuality. If the day includes some notions of seeming chaos, see whether or not what is being made apparent are nothing other than great insights that can allow you to connect into a deeper sense of freedom and a liberation of self-expression.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 19 degrees of Sagittarius (Sun) and Gemini (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Sagittarius, Gemini, or the other mutable signs—Virgo and Pisces—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Sagittarius is associated with liver, hips, buttocks, thighs, and sciatic nerve while Gemini is associated with the shoulders, arms, lungs, and nervous system. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this Full Moon.

Meditation: Full Moons oftentimes stimulate a sense of agitation. When the energies of Gemini and Uranus are involved–which they are today–it’s especially fruitful to focus on centering our sense of calm. Meditation can be very helpful for this. As Gemini rules the nervous system, incorporating pranayama breathing exercises may be especially beneficial. Even if you don’t regularly meditate, try taking even just 5 minutes to sit quietly and focus on your breath as you inhale and exhale as this can be a great exercise to quell nervous tension. Although Sagittarius is the sign of the sojourn, during your meditation try to still your mind, keeping it on a short reign so that it doesn’t travel too far.

Lavender: Lavender is a great essential oil to help calm the nerves. The use of lavender to calm the nervous system is not only supported by traditional use but also by numerous research studies that have found it to have stress-relieving, attention-enhancing, and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties. In addition, lavender also has powerful antibacterial properties. Carry a vial of lavender with you, inhaling its beautiful aroma whenever you need a sense of calm. Or add a few drops to a plain massage oil and apply as a fragrantly centering body moisturizer.

December 13, 2011: Mercury goes Direct

Mercury ends its current retrograde period today, December 13 at 5:43 pm PST. The retrograde period was a great time for harnessing insights gained from inner reflection rather than external focus. Did new ideas spring forth from inward contemplation? Did you discover novel ways to communicate ideas? Did you realize better ways to utilize technological equipment/systems to transfer information to others? (Provided, of course, that they didn’t completely break down during this time, which in this case means you’re still likely to have gleaned the characteristics of those that may better suit your needs.) If you want a refresher on what Mercury retrograde is about, see this post.

Now that Mercury is direct, you can transform your insights into actions. Please remember, though, that we are still under the transit’s “shadow period”—which lasts until December 31—where the energy of the retrograde still exists, although in a much more diluted and subtle fashion.

December 24, 2011: Capricorn New Moon (exact at 10:06 am PST)

New Moons are auspicious monthly celestial events that usher in fresh cycles of creation and becoming. This Capricorn New Moon provides a great opportunity to inventory how we spend our resources. It’s a notable time to balance a checkbook, survey investments, or consider an aspect of financial planning we’ve yet to fully explore.

Remember, though, our personal economy of resources is not just limited to our money but also includes our time, energy, and skills/talents, all of which comprise the capital that we can use to create a richer life. Whether we are allocating these efficiently–and whether they are generating additional assets or incurring liabilities for us–can be very prudent topics to survey during this New Moon. The answers can help us to create a stronger foundation upon which we can build our future.

Loyalty and commitment may also be important themes during this New Moon. What we may find ourselves looking at isn’t so much the concept of being dutiful but rather whether the people and institutions to which we have granted our allegiance are those that are worthy of it. Readjustments in relationships—involving how much we give and how much we allow ourselves to expect in return—may occur.

This is an especially powerful New Moon given that it aligns with many other planets. It squares Uranus, conjoins Pluto, and trines Jupiter.

The Uranus influence portends that there may be surprises in store as things may not unfold during this time as we had anticipated. See what insights the patterns that you notice can provide you with when it comes to forging a greater sense of freedom and individuality. In fact, consider being proactive when it comes to surprises—surprise yourself by taking a new approach to a current situation. You may very well find that innovation is greatly rewarded. This idea of expecting the unexpected and the benefit of being flexible and fluid may not necessarily itself seem very novel, given that Uranus energy has been very strong all month; it stationed direct on December 10, right at the time of the Lunar Eclipse.

With the tie-in to Pluto we may find that our deep emotions bursting forth, desiring a window of expression. Try to give voice to that which has been swept under the rug, having confidence that shining the light into the dark—the expression of that which we’ve been fearful of taking ownership for–oftentimes is the perfect Rx for dissolving fears and insecurities.

Even if the day feels challenging at times it may seem as if there’s a benevolent guide providing assistance, with extra encouragement and unexpected doses of optimism to which we can connect. That’s because the New Moon makes a harmonious alignment to Jupiter, a planet whose energies are very strong right now given that it is stationing, about to shift into direct motion on Christmas Day (December 25 at 2:09 pm PST).

This month’s New Moon falls at 3 degrees of Capricorn (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Capricorn or the other cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer, Libra—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Capricorn is associated with the skeletal system, joints, and skin. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon.

Moisturize: This Capricorn New Moon provides a great opportunity to pay special attention to the skin. As Capricorn has a relatively drying energetic, taking the time to do a moisturizing treatment is a worthwhile wellness activity. If you rarely moisturize your skin, consider even just making an intention to apply body lotion or oil two times today. [Given that New Moons are great times for planting new seeds for becoming, doing this activity may spark the creation of a regular and continual moisturizing regimen.] If you already have a regular moisturizing ritual, consider applying a nourishing and hydrating facial mask; you can either find them in apothecaries or beauty stores, or consider making your own from ingredients such as avocados, honey, aloe vera, yogurt, and other nurturing food-based ingredients.

Turmeric: Capricorn is associated with the joints, body parts that often express inflammation, which can lead to pain and reduced mobility. One of the best anti-inflammatory compounds, and therefore a great item to promote rheumatic health, is the spice turmeric. While turmeric supplements are available, you can readily include this healing spice into your lifestyle by adding it to your recipes. Traditionally used as a foundation ingredient in curries and other Indian dishes, its earthy flavor can complement many dishes. You can purchase powdered turmeric in the spice section of the grocery store; fresh turmeric rhizome is available in Asian markets.

November 10, 2011: Taurus Full Moon (exact at 12:16 pm PST)

During the Taurus Full Moon the question “Does this feel good?” takes high precedence, becoming a compass with which we can navigate the choices we make. We can use it to evaluate relationships and situations, reflecting upon whether they help us to feel safe, secure, and inherently appreciated and affirmed.

With the heightened sensuality that this Full Moon yields, we can also ask ourselves “Does this feel good?” from a physical perspective, allowing ourselves to further assess the foods, aromas, sounds, and kinesthetic experiences through which we find valuable nourishment. With both signs relating to between-the-sheets experiences–Taurus because of its affinity with sensual pleasures, Scorpio because of its alignment with our sexual nature–we may feel more drawn to express passions of the heart (et al.) today.

“Does this feel good?” is an especially relevant question given that Taurus likes comfort while Scorpio oftentimes finds regeneration inspired by discomfort. The Taurus Full Moon can provide an opportunity to help us identify how to strike a balance–to nourish ourselves without resting in stasis while inspiring our inner transformation in a compassionate, rather than ruthless, manner.

At this particular Full Moon there’s a strong infusion of Neptunian energy given that the mystical planet is still stationing, having turned direct yesterday. As such, we may find ourselves feeling even more deeply than we usually do, whether to our own or others’ joys or sorrows. We could find ourselves either extremely enchanted or disenchanted with someone or something. Keeping both our heart and eyes open to try to see things as clearly as possible is important, even though it can be challenging. After all, when Neptune beams strongly it gives us a proclivity to glamorizing people and situations (which oftentimes cannot live up to the idealistic projections that we place upon them).

This month’s Full Moon falls at 18 degrees of Scorpio (Sun) and Taurus (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Scorpio or Taurus or the other fixed signs—Leo and Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Scorpio is associated with the genitals, reproductive system, urinary tract, and large intestine while Taurus is associated with the neck, throat, thyroid, and inner ears. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this Full Moon.

Aphrodisiac foods: Indulge in foods that tickle your senses. Some reputed aphrodisiacs include dark chocolate, oysters, artichokes, saffron, and asparagus. Even if they don’t end up lifting your libido, since these delicious foods are so nutrient-rich they’ll definitely elevate your health and wellness.

Sexy smells: Surround yourself with fragrant essential oils that inspire your passionate nature, using them in baths, body oils, or as a perfume. If you’re looking for new aromas to stoke your sensual nature and sex drive, consider ylang ylang, jasmine, sandalwood, and ginger.

November 23 – December 13, 2011: Mercury Retrograde

Retrograde periods are times for reflection and heightened inner awareness. Since Mercury symbolizes communication, they way we learn, our siblings, and our neighborhood, this period can yield great insights in related areas of your life. Mercury retrograde lasts about three weeks and occurs three to four times per year; the last one took place August 2—26.

Mercury represents the bridges and channels that allow us to connect varied pieces of information in order to synthesize them into the whole of understanding. During Mercury retrograde periods, the inherent weaknesses of these conduits may be revealed. As such, this period is known for the breakdown of tools that help us to share information (such as phones, computers, and printers) and well as those that assist us as we move from place to place (such as cars, bikes, and buses); therefore, do what you can to make sure they are in good working order. With data and information transfer stressed, it’s a great time to ensure you’re backing up your hard drive, keeping track of whether you’re due for an oil change, or inventorying your supply of extra batteries necessary for the remote or your child’s favorite toy.

Any planetary retrograde reflects a period where the energy is focused more internally. Therefore, it’s a wonderful time to turn communication inward to seek insights and understanding. Meditation, journaling, and nondominant handwriting are great activities to do during Mercury retrograde to help you find the pieces of the puzzle and the teachings of wisdom that you seek.

While inner reflection is heightened, external communication may be stressed. Therefore, try to avoid misunderstandings by being extra diligent about the words you use, while also making sure to listen even more attentively than usual. Whether it be with writing or speaking, put a little extra effort into dotting your I’s and crossing your T’s. Be especially aware of this if you have to sign any binding contract during Mercury retrograde (putting off doing so if possible), as oftentimes all of the information you need to make a decision isn’t available or especially clear.

When you think of how to approach this period, just remember the first two letters of the word retrograde—“re”—and apply it to the activities you undertake. As such, Mercury retrograde periods are a great time to reassess, review, reanalyze, revisit, rethink, re-edit, and recommunicate.

During this retrograde period, Mercury travels from 20 degrees to 4 degrees Sagittarius. While everyone experiences the energies of Mercury retrograde, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around or aspecting these degrees, it may impact you more intensely.

Mercury Retrograde Apothecary Suggestions

Nondominant handwriting: This exercise is easy to do and takes minimal time commitment. Just think of a question to which you seek an answer, something that you’ve been pondering. Then pick up a pen or pencil and place it in your nondominant hand (the left one for righties, and the right one for lefties) and write out the answer on paper. Write freely and don’t judge what may seem like chicken scratch. The beauty of this exercise is that by using our opposite hand we are able to able to access more of our subconcious mind and tap into our intuitive knowingness. What you compose on the paper should provide you with an insightful perspective on your question.

“Spring cleaning”: Mercury retrograde is a great time to literally clean your closets. That’s because our abilities to reassess, reevaluate, and reconsider are heightened. Cleaning closets can be wonderfully therapeutic: It provides a trip down memory lane and it also helps to unburden ourselves of things that no longer best serve us. If your closets don’t need to be cleaned, consider organizing your desk drawers or pantry shelves.

November 24, 2011: Sagittarius New Moon Solar Eclipse (exact at 10:10 pm PST)

New Moons are auspicious monthly celestial events that usher in fresh cycles of creation. When they are also a Solar Eclipse–as today’s is–they hold additional power for manifestation. [Even if we can’t see an Eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.]

A Solar Eclipse signifies a time for beginnings. As such it usually brings with it endings. That’s because in order for something to firmly root, so that it can flourish, space needs to be made. Therefore, while there is great focus on the initiation of the new, one usually can’t get away from the fact that something(s) may be inherently coming to a close at this point as well.

This Sagittarius Solar Eclipse marks an auspicious time to undertake a new project that can help us forge a greater understanding of the world around us. Expanding our horizons to embrace a different philosophical perspective—even just trying it on for size temporarily—can be incredibly valuable and uplifting.

We may find ourselves starting many sentences with the word Why. These may be questions that help us garner understanding or declarative statements with which we share our knowledgeable perspective with others. Relatedly, it’s a good time to give homage to those who have been our teachers or guides, who have lit the path for us so that we can travel it with more enlightenment. From this reflection we may also gain unexpected insights into how we have served as preceptors for others.

Solar Eclipses (as well as Lunar Eclipses) are often accompanied by identifiable life-changing events that manifest around the time of this celestial happening. And with this Eclipse harmoniously tied into Uranus, there may be a greater chance that these life-changing events seem to come out of nowhere.

The planet of innovation, Uranus sparks our need to further find our unique sense of individuality. It inspires within us the urge to do things differently, to undertake a personal [r]evolution in order to experience evolution. When Uranus is strong, as it is today, “expect the unexpected” is a good mantra to follow. By using that as a framework, and knowing that some unanticipated events may occur—but that we just can’t yet anticipate what they will be—we can we disappear some of the potential anxiety that can come from surprises we didn’t even conceptualize would occur. Additionally, by keeping our attention open to the out-of-the-blue novelties that occur, we may be more apt to perceive the value and lessons that they can offer us.

This month’s New Moon Solar Eclipse falls at 3 degrees of Sagittarius (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Sagittarius or the other mutable signs—Gemini, Virgo, and Pisces—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Sagittarius is associated with the liver, hips, buttocks, thighs, and sciatic nerve. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon.

Liver-supporting foods: As Sagittarius is the sign related to the liver, focusing on this important organ—vital for detoxification—is a great thing to do around the time of this New Moon. As New Moon signify beginnings, consider making changes in your diet today that will be of benefit in the future. Some liver-supporting foods to add include the Brassica vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, et al.), which feature sulfur-containing phytonutrients that ramp up detoxification enzymes. Also, limiting the amount of alcohol and additive-containing processed foods can be a boon for hepatic health as can incorporating more organic foods since these don’t contain the liver-challenging chemical residues that conventionally raised foods do.

Warrior II Yoga Pose: Even if you don’t do yoga, Warrior II is a great pose to practice today. It helps us to connect with the visionary spirit of the Sagittarian Archer who is looking into the future, visualizing goals that lie ahead right over the horizon. Plus, it helps to stretch and strengthen the Sagittarian-ruled muscles of the hips, thighs, and buttocks. For instructions on the Warrior II pose, see here.

October 11, 2011: Aries Full Moon (exact at 7:06 pm PDT)

The Aries Full Moon reminds us that within relationships three participants are present–the I, the You, and the We—all with unique needs of their own. Today, we can gain additional insight into how the I and the You make the We and yet how the equation is more exponential than additive, as the relationship is its own entity, having its own personality and existence. We can see how we can contribute to it and derive so much from it, but inherently it is separate than the individuals that comprise it.

The path to these realizations and the work required to find accord may not necessarily be filled with unfettered ease. After all, the Moon—which signifies our needs and what feels good to us–is in the sign of Aries. While Libra–where the Sun is placed–can express much patience, the concept of watching, planning, and waiting is relatively foreign to Aries. It wants things now, or before now. Therefore, be aware of the potential for outbursts of impatience or irritability. Remember, though, that the influx of Arian energy isn’t necessarily negative; the Moon in this fiery sign can provide us with the spark that we need to express ourselves and get things accomplished.

Saturn plays a strong role in this Full Moon, conjoining the Sun and opposing the Moon. Saturn is the “make-it-real” planet, the one that helps us to realize just where we may be cutting corners and/or not living up to our responsibilities. If we’re not following a path of efficiency and productivity, Saturn will likely let us know by yielding frustrations in manifested outcomes. If your efforts seem thwarted, pull back a little and look at the situation from a more detached perspective. Is there a way to shift your strategy to better honor your fundamental needs and/or those of the relationship? Would a different approach actually enhance what’s being created?

Since Saturn is focused on the material world–and the honoring of what can be seen/touched/heard–initiating your Full Moon intentions through ritual can be a wonderful way to constructively channel this planet’s energies.

Here are a few ideas to use as inspirations:

* Do a yoga practice where you dedicate your efforts to inspiring good for another person.

* Take a bath (maybe even with your partner) using salts and essential oils that you find to be inspiring.

* Create a simple art project (such as a drawing or collage) that embodies your visions for a fulfilling relationship.

* Plan and cook a meal with another, thoughtfully considering how each person’s contributions relate to and inspire the other’s.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 19 degrees of Libra (Sun) and Aries (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Libra, Aries, or the other cardinal signs—Capricorn and Cancer—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Libra is associated with the skin, lower back, kidneys, and blood sugar balance while Aries is associated with the head, muscles, and circulatory system. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this Full Moon.

Vetiver: Vetiver essential oil helps to calm pitta, dispelling the excess Aries heat and inflammatory energy associated with this Ayurvedic dosha. In addition to its calming and grounding effects, vetiver is rejuvenating for the Libra-ruled skin. Mix a few drops with some unscented massage oil for an all-over restorative experience. Or, carry a vial of vetiver with you, inhaling its fragrance whenever you need to relax and restore your grounded focus. As with all essential oils, it’s best to purchase vetiver from a high-quality, reputable manufacturer.

Partner Yoga: An example of an exercise ritual that can be shared by two people, partner yoga is a fun and relationship-building way to stay in shape. By relying upon another person to help you achieve greater depth and grace in asanas (poses), partner yoga can help you to strengthen and fortify your body, mind, and relationship. Inquire with your local yoga studios to see if they offer any classes or if any of the teachers can provide you with ideas on how to crate your own practice.

October 26, 2011: Scorpio New Moon (exact at 12:56 pm PDT)

New Moons signal beginnings. When this celestial event occurs in Scorpio what we can initiate are the ways in which we can connect more deeply into our essential nature, finding the inherent resources that may reside in the inner sanctum of our hearts and minds.

Scorpio represents that which is hidden, the unseen, the things that are kept in the dark. When you say or feel that you “don’t want to go there” what you are alluding to is usually the realm of Scorpio.

During a Scorpio New Moon, subjects considered to be taboo may rise to the surface. If your natural reflex is to turn a blind eye to these, allow yourself to contemplate them for a moment, even if at a distance. You may end up finding them a great source of learning; just understanding why it is that they cause aversion itself is a powerful lesson.

Relationships may be the cause of some of the Scorpio turbulence today given that Venus and Mars are in a tricky square alignment. Situations, on first glance, may seem like they are at an impasse. Instead of resigning to a feeling of being stuck, see if there’s a way to negotiate and take some action to move things towards greater accord. This may not result in everyone being overjoyed yet it can resolve a situation so that everyone can move on to the next chapter in a more satisfied way.

When Venus and Mars are in this type of alignment what we value and what we desire may not be one and the same. Instead of reflexively choosing one over the other (and later having regret) see if there’s a way to achieve (at least) a modicum of synthesis.

This month’s New Moon falls at 3 degrees of Scorpio (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Scorpio or the other fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Scorpio is associated with the genitals, reproductive system, urinary tract, and large intestines. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon.

Helichrysum essential oil: During the Scorpio New Moon—a time of rebirth and revival—it’s good to know about helichrysum essential oil, itself known for its regenerative properties. Also known as everlasting and immortelle, helichrysum is a favorite when the skin needs assistance in healing scars and wounds. Its regenerative properties are also thought to be experienced on an emotional level, as many find that it helps to release repressed feelings while catalyzing greater self-compassion.

Pink Monkeyflower flower essence: As the Scorpio energy allows us to probe deeply, this New Moon can be an auspicious time to go within and find the aspects of ourselves that we have been hiding, likely because of fear of being vulnerable or concern that if we show who we truly are we may be abandoned. This emotional armoring—usually accompanied by an inherited sense of shame–keeps us from sharing ourselves truly with others (and sometimes even with ourselves) and restricts us from living more freely. Pink Monkeyflower flower essence can help fortify our hearts, assisting us in taking emotional risks so that we can let our selves more fluidly flow through. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

September 12, 2011: Pisces Full Moon (exact at 2:27 am PDT)

The Pisces Full Moon can be an auspicious time for healing. We have at our disposal the ability to connect to the body (via earthy Virgo, the sign where the Sun resides) and our intuition (via sensitive Pisces, the sign where the Moon resides). If your health has been less than abundant, or you’re just looking to feel even more vital, taking the time to focus in how to enhance your wellness during this Full Moon may prove very productive.

Use your discerning, critical eye (Virgo) to deduce how different physical and emotional factors may be combining to paint the current picture of your health. Then, sit quietly with these insights (Pisces), allowing conscious knowingness to emerge from a place deep within you and inform you on ways to proceed. The combination of Virgoan and Piscean energy can be a powerful elixir for our health as well as provide solutions to dis-ease in other areas of our life.

Be aware, though, that during a Pisces Full Moon, we may be pulled toward feelings of melancholy, to sensing whispers of sorrow caused by disillusionment. After all, both Virgo and Pisces yield a desire for perfection and idealism, and “reality” oftentimes doesn’t match up to how we desire life to be. It’s especially important during this celestial event to remember to practice compassion—for yourself and others—and to accept that even in imperfection, beauty and grace reside.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 20 degrees of Virgo (Sun) and Pisces (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Virgo, Pisces, or the other mutable signs—Gemini and Sagittarius—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Virgo is associated with the small intestines and digestive system while Pisces rules the feet, immune/lymphatic systems, and pineal gland. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Reflexology: As Pisces rules the feet, when the Moon is in this sign, reflexology can be an especially lovely activity to engage in. The massaging of pressure points on the feet can help to circulate energy and quell Virgoan-inspired anxiety. Additionally, working on the digestive system points, concentrated between the ball of the foot and the heel, can support Virgo-associated gastrointestinal health.

Prayers for healing: With the Moon in spiritually oriented Pisces, it’s a wonderful time to invoke the power of faith in the promotion of healing. This need not be a complex activity nor one necessarily infused with religious meaning. Rather, just focus upon yourself—or another whose health could benefit from assistance—and say a prayer for betterment. If it feels right, invite others to join a prayer circle. Prayer may seem simple, yet it can be so very powerful.

September 27, 2011: Libra New Moon (exact at 4:09 am PDT)

New Moons are times of beginnings, opportunities to connect with all that is potential and plant seeds for the birth of that which we want to create. As this New Moon is in Libra, it’s a good time to survey our relationships and see how we may encourage them to flourish so that our lives can be even more graced by them. Using the image of the Scales, the symbol for Libra, as your guide, weigh and assess the value of your existing relationships, considering their strengths and weaknesses.

While Libra is the sign of beauty, order, and grace, this isn’t to say that this day won’t be without it bumps and potential rough patches. It’s likely to be an intense day given the New Moon’s connection to four other planets—Uranus, Mercury, Pluto, and Mars. Uranus’ involvement reminds us that keeping an open mind and pursuing innovative approaches to assessing what’s-what may prove beneficial. So may a bit of detachment from the situation. Mercury’s New Moon tie-in inspires thoughts and ideas to flow. Pluto’s presence gives the day a flair of intensity–the changes you may feel compelled to make may certainly rattle a few feathers (including your own). Yet, remember that there are times when great benefit comes from surrendering and letting something go—it is oftentimes the path to the type of deep transformation that allows your more-essential nature to come forth. Finally, with the Moon making a sweet sextile to Mars, you’ve got extra motivation to do what feels right.

Some good questions to ask during the New Moon include: Can existing relationships—with a little shifting—better serve me? Are some of my unmet needs actually those that I can provide for myself? If objectively seeing the ins and outs of your relationships seems especially challenging, consider finding a neutral “mediator” who you can talk to about this, someone who can help you clearly negotiate a deeper understanding of this area of your life.

This month’s New Moon falls at 4 degrees of Libra (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Libra or the other cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer, and Capricorn—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Libra is associated with the skin, lower back, and blood sugar balance. Pay attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this New Moon.

Facial: With Libra associated with both the skin and beauty, today’s a great day to focus on skin health and radiance. If you don’t want to schedule a facial at a day spa, consider doing one at home. First, clean your face, lightly massaging in the cleanser for a few minutes to stimulate blood and lymph flow. You can exfoliate while you clean (using a gentle skin brush), use a store-bought natural face scrub, or make your own–using ingredients such as oatmeal, almond powder, or rice flour mixed with yogurt (DIY scrub recipes can be found in books and websites). Then, do a steam treatment using an essential oil like rose or chamomile. Follow this up with a mask suited to your skin type. While relaxing with the mask on, apply cucumber slices or damp tea bags to your eyes to soothe them. After rinsing off the mask, spritz some rose water on your face, then apply a moisturizer, and continue to enjoy your Libra New Moon day.

Eat Fruit: As Libra is associated with sweets and fertility, it is the sign aligned with fruit. So why not make these delicious and phytonutrient-rich foods a greater focus of your diet today? You don’t even need to eat more servings of fruit if you already eat a good amount; rather, try varying the types that you enjoy. For example, consider trying a variety of apple or pear that you usually don’t buy. Or treat yourself to a fruit—mangos, pineapple, or berries for instance–that you usually avoid because of the price. See if your food market sells exotic fruit—such as mangosteen, dragon fruit, or star fruit; enjoying the delectables from another culture, notably one you’ve never experienced, can make your day even sweeter. If you’re worried about your blood sugar, remember that fruits such as apples, grapefruits, pears, oranges, and cherries are relatively low on the glycemic index.

August 2 – August 26, 2011: Mercury Retrograde

Retrograde periods are times for reflection and heightened inner awareness. Since Mercury symbolizes communication, they way we learn, our siblings, and our neighborhood, this period can yield great insights in related areas of your life. Mercury retrograde lasts about three weeks and occurs three to four times per year; the last one took place March 30 – April 23, 2011.

Meditation, journaling, and non-dominant handwriting are great activities to do during Mercury retrograde to help you find the pieces of the puzzle and the teachings of wisdom that you seek.

During this retrograde period, Mercury travels from 1 degree of Virgo to 19 degrees of Leo. While everyone experiences the energies of Mercury retrograde, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around or aspecting these degrees, it may impact you more intensely.

Mercury Retrograde Apothecary Suggestions

Non-dominant handwriting: This exercise is easy to do and takes minimal time commitment. Just think of a question to which you seek an answer, something that you’ve been pondering. Then pick up a pen or pencil and place it in your non-dominant hand (the left one for righties, and the right one for lefties) and write out the answer on paper. Write freely and don’t judge what may seem like chicken scratch. The beauty of this exercise is that by using our opposite hand we are able to able to access more of our subsconcious mind and tap into our intuitive knowingness.

If your closets don’t need to be cleaned, consider organizing your desk drawers or pantry.

August 13, 2011: Aquarius Full Moon (exact at 11:57 am PDT)

During an Aquarius Full Moon, issues involving individuals and their relationship to the collective become the center of attention. If you are involved in any groups or associations, you may perceive a heightened sense of tension as the organization strives to accommodate the needs of its members along with its own overarching identity and goals. Yet, if outstanding issues are worked upon, there can be great breakthroughs in group dynamics and team building.

The relationship-driven essence of this Full Moon is greatly enhanced by the prominence of Venus. The planet of love and sociability, Venus strives to attract, make nice, and inspire pleasure. Venus resonates strongly by being conjunct the Sun. Additionally, it is in antiscia relationship with Jupiter, the planet that expands things, makes them bigger, and endows lucky opportunities. As such, grace, beauty, and connectedness may be noticeable themes emanating during this time.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 21 degrees of Leo (Sun) and Aquarius (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Leo, Aquarius, or the other fixed signs—Taurus and Scorpio—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Leo is associated with the heart, spine, and hair while Aquarius is associated with the calves, ankles, peripheral circulatory system, and the body’s bionergetics. Pay extra attention to these areas of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Quaking Grass flower essence: Quaking Grass is a wonderful remedy to help inspire harmonious group dynamics. It helps individuals maintain a sense of balanced self when in a collective and yet see themselves as a part of something much larger than just themselves. While the essence can be taken by an individual, it can also be used it as a room spray (mix a few drops into a water-filled mister bottle) as a way to foster a more productive, as well as heartfelt, group process. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

Listen to world music: As Leo is the sign of the creative arts, and Aquarius the sign of humanity’s collective vision, listening to music from other countries is a relaxation practice that aligns with the energy of this Full Moon. Whether it be Jamaican ska, Portuguese fado, Senegalese mbalax, or any international genre, music can bring great joy and help us open up our heart.

August 28, 2011: Virgo New Moon (exact at 8:04 pm PDT)

“Are You Being Served?” is not only the name of a BBC comedy show but it is also a mantra that we are called upon to embrace during the Virgo New Moon. As Virgo is dedicated to helping and healing, today is a great day to focus our energies on being of service to others as well as showing gratitude to those who have extended themselves graciously to us.

During the Virgo New Moon, there’s also a focus on arts and crafts. If you are working on a creative project, you may find the additional attention to detail you need in order to further refine your creation. If you’ve considered venturing into a new hobby—knitting, cooking, jewelry making, or something else that’s caught your fancy—the Virgo New Moon may provide you with just the tools and motivation you need to embark upon your new artful enterprise. Given that Virgo is a sign intimately connected to food, diet and health, we may get extra inspired to focus on our self-care regimen.

We’ve certainly got the power to kick-start whatever we intention today given that the Sun and Moon are both in a harmonious trine to transformative Pluto. Consider your objectives and set your goals and connect to the inherent energy available to make you unstoppable in the pursuit of your mission.

This is especially true if you can connect to what it is that you want intuitively—rather than just rationally—and also have it be not just something that’s for your benefit but also for the benefit of others. By doing so you can positively channel the energy of Neptune which is also tied into the New Moon since it forms an (out-of-sign) opposition to the Moon and Sun. Otherwise, dreamy Neptune may dissolve things in such a way that confusion and great unclarity emerge.

This month’s New Moon falls at 6 degrees of Virgo (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Virgo or the other mutable signs—Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Virgo rules the small intestines and digestive system. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Pine flower essence: A striving for wanting things “just so” can be motivating in terms of creating order and beauty in our lives but, if not contained, it can lead to self-criticism and judgment that can sabotage our happiness. If you need some extra assistance releasing feelings of self-directed reproach and finding the forgiveness within that you deserve, consider Pine flower essence. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

Melissa (lemon balm): Melissa essential oil is a fragrant way to relax and dispel anxiety. Use some in a bath or unscented body lotion. Make a melissa-scented calming room spray by adding a few drops to a mister bottle filled with water. Melissa also has mind-focusing qualities, which can be very helpful especially if you find today’s strong Neptunian energies to be inspiring scattered concentration. Check the labels carefully and buy a high quality product as less expensive melissa oils are sometimes adulterated with citronella or lemongrass.

July 1, 2011: Cancer New Moon Solar Eclipse (exact at 1:54 am PDT)

Today’s Cancer New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse. It’s the third Eclipse in the past month. The first—a Gemini Solar Eclipse—took place on June 1 with the second—a Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse—taking place on June 15. The next Eclipses this year don’t occur for a while: The Sagittarius Solar Eclipse falls on November 24 (Thanksgiving) while the Gemini Lunar Eclipse falls on December 10. Even if we can’t see an Eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

A New Moon Solar Eclipse signifies a time for beginnings. While something may inherently be coming to a close, there is great focus on the initiation of the new that it brings. Like Lunar Eclipses, a Solar Eclipse is often accompanied by identifiable life-changing events that manifest around the time of its occurrence. It’s a very auspicious time to plant the seeds for that which you want to manifest over the coming months.

This Cancer New Moon provides an opportunity to resolve some familial wounds. This is because Cancer is the sign of the family, the home, and the past. The sign of the Crab is associated with that which gives us roots and grounded nurturance. It relates to those whom we call our tribe, or wish to call our tribe. When Cancer energy is strong we are more inclined to come from a place of subjective emotions and want to fiercely protect that which we love.

While you may feel you are being urged to begin a new chapter of your life, it’s natural that you may feel like you are facing some resistance. This may be even more evident today given that structured Saturn is squaring the Sun and Moon. Try to work through the fear of change that Saturn may inspire by focusing on channelling its planetary energy another way. See if you can use it to help you created a structured plan that will allow you to achieve the changes you want in your life, knowing that they are built upon a solid foundation. When’s Saturn’s strong, we have to do the work—there’s no proverbial “free lunch”—yet if we are responsible and accountable we also get the jewels. This includes a greater sense of authority, the sense that we are actually being responsible for authoring our lives.

In reality even if we attempted to resist the changes the Eclipse is inspiring, it may seem futile given that Pluto is opposing the Sun and Moon. This may manifest as an incredible intensity where we are connecting to provocative and deep feelings as well as awareness. Compulsions and power struggles are also often prevalent when Pluto is strong so watch for this in your interactions, as well as within yourself. As Pluto inspires letting go of that which doesn’t forge alignment, consider giving into the urge to release and jump right into the whirlpool of your personal transformation, abetted by a life vest of faith.

This month’s New Moon falls at 9 degrees of Cancer (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Cancer or the other cardinal signs—Aries, Libra, Capricorn—it may impact you more intensely. Also, take note of the house in your personal astrology chart that the eclipse falls in as it represents an arena of your life that will hold special import over the next 6 months.

New Moon Solar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Cancer rules the stomach, sinuses, body fluids, and breasts. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Jasmine essential oil: As the jasmine flower is governed by the Moon—the planetary ruler of Cancer—enjoying its aroma can help support the energetics of this Solar Eclipse. Jasmine has a rapturous fragrance that arouses our ability to connect to the feminine spirit within us. It’s a lauded aphrodisiac as well. Use it as perfume, combine it with body oil for a sensuality-inspiring massage, or sprinkle a few drops in a bath and soak in its feminine revelry.

Mariposa Lily flower essence: Cancer is the sign of the mother and the maternal nature that exists within all of us. Yet, some people feel disconnected from a sense of maternal nurturance. It may be that they perceived their mother didn’t meet their needs, an imprint that then shapes their connection to expressing warmth and radiance as well as nourishing themselves and others. If issues related to your mother and the caring feminine energy within you are arising during this time, consider Mariposa Lily flower essence. It helps to inspire maternal consciousness and a sense of warmth and caring, enlivening a reconnection to mother and the mother archetype. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

July 14, 2011: Cancer/Capricorn Full Moon (exact at 11:40 pm PDT)

Issues of security are brought to the forefront during the Cancer/Capricorn Full Moon. It urges us to look at our life through the lens of the questions, “Where do I feel at home?” and “How can I feel more safe and protected regardless of where I am?” In pure Capricorn fashion, these aren’t light-hearted questions, but they are ones whose answers can provide us with the riches of insight to live a more integrated and productive life.

What’s also highlighted during this Full Moon is the importance of maintaining a balanced sense of perspective. Cancer inspires us to both feel as well as value our feelings. It has flowing, soft and undulating energy. Capricorn, on the other hand, is not focused on feelings but rather on diligent and responsible approaches to accomplishing tangible outcomes. The question becomes how the yin nurturer (Cancer) and the yang achiever (Capricorn) can co-exist. One way it can be done is that instead of just wallowing in one’s emotions to take a serious look at them, inventorying what they may be revealing. Once insights are gleaned, see what practical ways you take action to structure facets of your life so that they will further nourish you.

Also, with this Full Moon, we are reminded that while the past is essential, it’s important not to wallow in it. What came before may be an integral part of who you are but don’t let it pull you from the joys of the present. “Be here now,” as Ram Dass is famous for saying. Recognize that which you may have inherited is only one aspect of you, and while it may hold some value for helping you to build your own personal legacy, you are so much more than your past and from where you came.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 22 degrees of Cancer (Sun) and Capricorn (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Cancer, Capricorn, or the other cardinal signs—Aries and Libra—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Cancer is associated with the stomach, sinuses, body fluids, and breasts while Capricorn is associated with the skin, skeletal system, and joints. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Skin scrub: With Capricorn ruling the skin and the Crab—the symbol for Cancer—famous for its molting, why not do a skin scrub ritual during this Full Moon. Sloughing away dead skin cells enhances circulation, reduces clogged pores, and allows the skin to breath better, improving our detoxification capacity. It also makes the skin more radiant and allows it to hold onto more moisture. Exfoliate the skin after several minutes in a hot shower or bath, or if you prefer do dry brushing before you bathe. Skin scrubbing tools—such as brushes and mitts made from sisal or nylon—are available in many beauty stores and natural foods markets.

Turtle meditation: The turtle, the animal which carries his home on his back no matter where he travels, is a great image to focus upon during this Full Moon. Invoke the image of the turtle today in your meditation, or even just look at pictures and read about these wise hard-shelled animals. The turtle is a great symbol of inner wisdom, a deliberate approach to life, and the sense of self-protection inherent within all of us.

July 30, 2011: Leo New Moon (exact at 11:40 am PDT)

During the Leo New Moon, we have the opportunity to shine. There’s an ebullient child-like energy that draws forth the playful and creative self that resides within. Yet, while there’s great encouragement to express oneself, it’s not always done so in a no-holds-barred way; care and thoughtfulness is usually taken since Leo is the sign of dignity and self-respect.

The Sun God(dess) sign aligns us with a feeling of wanting to be recognized and embraced for the special being we are. If other’s interactions with and attitudes towards us do not meet with these expectations, issues around wounded pride may arise.

Events may manifest that allow you to see how important it is to be generous in spirit and to radiate your inner light to those around. Stress and tension may be experienced in our hearts, bodies, and minds if we do not let our generous spirit and radiant energy flow. The Leo New Moon reminds us that we should proudly express our essential self, a being that has great gifts to offer those with whom it orbits.

This month’s New Moon falls at 7 degrees of Leo (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Leo or the other fixed signs—Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Leo rules the heart, spine, and hair. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Neroli essential oil: This romantic scent from the leaves of the Seville orange tree is a delightful and therapeutic one to enjoy during this New Moon. Neroli helps to inspire a sense of calm and joy. It has cooling properties so if you feel yourself overinflamed in mind, body, or heart, neroli may provide you with great fragrant benefits. Placing a drop above your heart and wearing as a perfume or using in a room diffuser are two ways to enjoy this beautiful scent.

Buttercup flower essence: When you need some support stoking the inner flame of self-value, buttercup flower essence may be of benefit. It’s especially good for periods when we are judging ourselves by external markers of success that, in turn, degrade our sense of self-worth. It helps shift the source of light from the unreliable-without to the eternally-sustaining-within. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

June 1, 2011: Gemini Solar Eclipse (exact at 2:03 pm PDT)

Today’s New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse, the first of this season (with July 1 marking the other). Even if we can’t see an eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

A New Moon Solar Eclipse signifies a time for beginnings. As such it usually brings with it endings. That’s because in order for something to firmly root, so that it can flourish, space needs to be made. Therefore, while there is great focus on the initiation of the new, one usually can’t get away from the fact that something(s) may be inherently coming to a close at this point as well.

Like Lunar Eclipses, a Solar Eclipse is often accompanied by identifiable life-changing events that manifest around the time of this celestial happening. It’s a very auspicious time to plant the seeds for that which you want to manifest over the coming months. Given that this New Moon makes a harmonious trine to Saturn, there’s an enhanced urge to make something of this time, to focus ourselves in service of building new structure in our lives.

We often feel the shake-up rumblings of an Eclipse a week or so before the event. Yet, often we don’t understand its full impact even the day it occurs. That is because something is eclipsed, obscured. Yet as time proceeds, it’s life-shifting impact becomes more apparent. Eclipses set trajectories in motion that unfold over the subsequent six-month period.

The Gemini New Moon is often a day of education and learning. Curiosity and wonder fill the air and it may seem as if your attention is pulled in a spectrum of directions as we gravitate to the facts, figures, and other pinpoints of information that seem especially intriguing today.

Like other New Moons, it’s a good day to set a goal for the coming four weeks, and given the presence of Gemini energy, it’s an auspicious time to begin gathering the information we’ll need to set this mission in motion.

The mercurial and seemingly fickle energy of Gemini is often on display during this New Moon period, amping up agitation and nervous energy. Be patient with yourself if you find it more difficult to make decisions while also making space for others if they seem to be more capricious than normal. If you’re finding yourself indecisive, consider whether it’s because you are more clearly seeing the two sides of the proverbial coin and the fact that both of them have grace and value. Reflect upon whether it really is even necessary to choose between them; potentially you can create a structure where you are able to enjoy both paths.

This month’s New Moon falls at 11 degrees of Gemini (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Gemini or the other mutable signs—Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces—it may impact you more intensely. Additionally, like with other planetary alignments, the house(s) of your natal chart that this Eclipse falls in sheds light on how it may be influencing your unfolding.

Solar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Gemini rules the shoulders, arms, hands, lungs, and nervous system. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Nadi Sodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing): With Gemini ruling the lungs and the nervous system, doing some pranayama breathing exercises like Nadi Sodhana can be beneficial if you need to calm a flurry of nervous energy. Sit in a comfortable position either on the floor or on a chair. Rest your left hand on your lap. Raise your right hand towards your nose, closing your right nostril by gently pushing your thumb against it. Inhale through your left nostril for four counts. Then release your thumb while closing your left nostril with your ring finger. Exhale through your right nostril for four counts and then inhale for four counts. Release hold on left nostril while closing right nostril with your thumb. Exhale through left nostril for four counts. Continue for twelve rounds or more.

Cerato flower essence: During the Gemini Moon there is an emphasis on the dissemination of information and it becomes tempting to seek advice and input from lots of people who are more than willing to share their thoughts and ideas. While this can be helpful, if you are unclear as to where you stand on an issue, it can cause any decision you need to make even more confusing. If you are looking for a natural remedy that can help inspire your confidence that intuitive knowingness truly resides within you, consider Cerato flower essence. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

June 4, 2011: Jupiter enters Taurus

Every year, Jupiter–the planet of luck and learning–moves into a new sign. On June 4, 2011 it moves into Taurus, where it will dig its heels until June 11, 2012 (when it enters the sign of Gemini). As Jupiter changes signs it affects the zeitgeist, causing a shift in our collective awareness. It ushers in new trends and elevates the importance–or at least “newsworthiness”–of certain concepts, ideas, and values. To read more about how Jupiter in Taurus may impact our collective ways, including potential trends it may usher in, see here.

June 15, 2011: Gemini/Sagittarius Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (exact at 1:14 pm PDT)

Today is the second of three of this season’s Eclipses. Today is a Lunar Eclipse, which is also a Full Moon. June 1 initated this Eclipse season as we experienced a Solar Eclipse (New Moon) in Gemini. On July 1 there will be a Solar Eclipse (New Moon) in Cancer.

A Lunar Eclipse signifies a time when things come to fruition.

As a Lunar Eclipse is a Full Moon–which features an opposition of the Sun and the Moon–it is often focused on finding the commonality between seeming opposites. There is heightened emphasis on synthesis and deconstructing duality for a more unified and cohesive understanding. As such it is often thought to be relationship-oriented, as each pole of the opposition tries to better understand itself through its association with the other. This is not always easy, mind you, and can bring conflict. But it is within that where insights into resolution of long-standing discordance may lay.

As such this celestial event may inspire critical examination associated with your relationships with other people or your relationship with various arenas of your life. For example, the focus may be on your relationship with your education path, your home, your career, your values, or your finances.

When the Full Moon features the Sun in Gemini and the Moon in Sagittarius, we are often compelled with a need to know. We strive to collect facts and figures not only because of intellectual curiosity but also because they are the vital ingredients that provide us with the deeper sense of the understanding that we seek. Maintaining a balanced appreciation for the pieces and the whole is emphasized. Remember not to lose the forest for the trees, yet don’t forsake the trees for the forest either; both are equally important.

The experience of travel—whether it be a weeks-long journey to a foreign land or a weekend road trip out of town—often coincides with this Eclipse. Even if exploration via a plane, train, or automobile isn’t in your plans, use this time for surveying new ideas or cultures; for example, read a book set in another country, flip through National Geographic magazine, or see a foreign-language film. All can magnetize to you enhanced understanding and a broader perspective on life.

This Eclipse is tied in with Mercury, the planet of communication that is ruled by Gemini. While Mercury’s aspects to the Sun and Moon are separating (conjunction to the Sun and opposition to the Moon), it still casts a heightened emphasis on the Geminian qualities of the day. Communication, the bridging of ideas, and the transport of material goods are enhanced. Mercury was a psychopomp, the messenger god who could freely travel from earth to the Underworld and back again. Therefore, given Mercury’s highlighted role during this Eclipse, there may be extra ability to traverse between realms of consciousness to gain access to essential knowledge that can further enhance your awareness and unfolding.

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse falls at 24 degrees of Gemini (Sun) and Sagittarius (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Gemini, Sagittarius, or the other mutable signs—Virgo and Pisces—it may impact you more intensely. Additionally, like with other planetary alignments, the house(s) of your natal chart that this Eclipse falls in sheds light on how it may be influencing your unfolding.

Lunar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Gemini is associated with the shoulders, arms, hands, lungs, and nervous system while Sagittarius governs the liver, hips, thighs, and buttocks. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Collage project: Even for those who consider themselves not artistically inclined, a collage project can be a wonderfully therapeutic and relaxing activity to partake in on this Full Moon. Not only is making a collage a creative expression, but it can be a great vehicle for inventive problem solving. For this aim, just focus on a situation in your life that you are being challenged by and for which you seek a solution. Holding it in your mind’s eye, cut out words and images from old magazines and newspapers that reflect aspects of the situation as well as its potential resolution. Glue these to poster board adding fabric, shells, rocks, or other small bric-a-brac in an arrangement that makes sense to you. Remember that there is no right or wrong here; just use your imagination and allow for your creativity to flow in your quest for discovery.

Exercise: Schedule in some time to exercise. It need not be vigorous—in fact, gentle may be the name of the game today with a leisurely walk, restorative yoga class, gardening session, or tai chi practice some possibilities. The reason: the day may be rife with bursts of energy and push/pull dynamics that if left to settle in our bodies may cause tension and stress. Doing gentle exercise can help us to circulate the energies and impart relaxation. If exercise doesn’t seem to be “what the doctor ordered” then schedule in some time to meditate, do creative visualization, read, or write in a journal: whatever it is that helps you to feel centered and release excess tension.

May 2, 2011: Taurus New Moon (exact at 11:51pm PDT)

The Taurus New Moon yields a great opportunity to look within and see what it is that brings you comfort and a greater sense of security. Taking the time today to examine what activities and earthly delights yield pleasure can help you discover a sense of rootedness that can serve you well in the coming year. As part of this exercise, think about your habits: Do they actually serve your personal needs for health and happiness or is the pleasure they provide mostly linked to their familiarity? Do they assist you in productively structuring your life or are they on some level limiting as they don’t let you move readily outside of a narrowly defined comfort zone? Reflecting upon your routines and rituals can be a great fount of awareness during the Taurus New Moon.

As Taurus is a very sensual sign, it’s a good time to listen to music, buy yourself some fragrant flowers, work for hours in the garden, or engage in other experiences that give you pleasure. Your kinesthetic senses may be especially heightened today and can serve as an additional tool to tune into how you feel about certain situations and people. For example, if you’re wondering whether you should pursue a certain project, let the idea of it sit within you and tune into how your body feels. Do you feel relaxed and comforted or jumpy and agitated? Your body may be able to help you filter truths that your mind is unable to clearly perceive.

A New Moon occurs when the Moon and Sun are conjunct. Given that today’s New Moon conjunction is the last aspect that the Moon makes before it moves into Gemini, the energies of it may be especially palpable. The Moon does not move into Gemini until Wednesday, May 4 at 10:09 am. Therefore, this New Moon’s effects and pronouncements will likely infuse the energy through then.

This month’s New Moon falls at 13 degrees of Taurus (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Taurus or the other fixed signs—Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Taurus rules the neck, throat, inner ears, and thyroid gland. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Chestnut bud flower essence: Sometimes habits can be supportive and necessary to create productive structure in our lives. Other times they can hold us back or keep us in an unsupportive loop of behavior. In the latter case, we may derive great comfort from doing the same thing again and again, even if we know that it’s not necessarily something that is in our highest interest. If you find yourself stuck in a “been there, done that, but I’ll do that again” rut and would like assistance releasing it, consider Chestnut Bud flower essence. It’s a great natural remedy to use when we need a little assistance breaking out of well-tread but unsupportive routines. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

Honey and lemon tea: Enjoy a soothing cup of honey and lemon tea. Its warmth is nurturing while the honey and lemon serve as wonderful balms for the throat. If possible, use raw honey (unless you’re pregnant or immunocompromised), which has more antioxidants, and juice from a fresh lemon rather than a bottle. For more throat support, add a tea bag of slippery elm or marshmallow root, two herbs known for their palliative qualities.

May 17, 2011 Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon (exact at 4:09 am PDT)

During the Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon we experience the juxtaposition of the practical (Taurus) and the emotional (Scorpio). The interplay between these two signs helps us to forge an awareness that what we see—what has form—is reliant upon that which is unseen but deeply felt.

As it reflects the relationship between the ground (Taurus) and the underground (Scorpio), a garden is a great image to consider when looking at the meaning of this Full Moon. Our senses appreciate the glory of the flowers, trees, ferns, and other earthly Taurean gems that flourish. Yet, it’s important to remember that none of this growth would be possible were it not for that which occurs out of sight, below the surface—such as the complex root structure, the hardworking earthworms, and the decay that feeds the soil. What we are called on to appreciate during this Full Moon is that the beauty we see is not just on the surface but also exists in the places that we may often shy away from, those we may consider “unseemly” or “out of bounds.”

There is a tenacity that fills the air during this Full Moon since both signs are known for this quality: Taurus is stubborn and likes to do what it wants while Scorpio clenches tightly to that which it desires to possess. Combine this with the sexuality inherent in both signs—Taurus from the perspective of enjoying the sensual and Scorpio because of its appreciation of transformative experiences—and you’re looking at a day filled with passion and pleasure.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 26 degrees of Taurus (Sun) and Scorpio (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Taurus, Scorpio, or the other fixed signs—Leo and Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Taurus is associated with the neck, throat, and inner ears while Scorpio is associated with the genitals, bladder, and large intestine. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Flower petal bath: Submerge your body in a sensuality-inspiring bath. Fill a small drawstring muslin bag (available at health and beauty-aid stores) with petals from your favorite fragrant flowers. While the bath is filling, hang the flower bag on the tub’s spout, and then let it float in the water after the bath is ready. (If you have a good drain cover, consider floating some petals themselves in the bath.) Enhance the aromatics of your experience by adding a few drops of floral essential oils—such as jasmine, rose, or rose geranium—to the bath.

Mud therapy: Mud holds great therapeutic benefits, including detoxification and muscle relaxation. As mud reflects aspects of Taurus (the earth) and Scorpio (the dark and dirty), treatments using this powerful material are well suited during this Full Moon. Many spas offer body polishing mud treatments (also known as fangotherapy). Or purchase some mud at a natural apothecary, applying it as a mask to your face and/or body, reveling in its ability to uncover more of your natural beauty.

April 3, 2011: Aries New Moon (exact at 7:32 am PDT)

Since Aries and the New Moon both symbolize the ushering in of beginnings, this lunar event is an auspicious time to start a new project. If you’re looking to kick off a diet or amp up your exercise regimen, the exuberance of palpable energy that the Aries New Moon affords may be a great motivator. Also, if you’ve wanted to tackle a problem but found yourself lacking in the moxie department, the Aries New Moon may give you an infusion of courage and daring that can help you persevere.

A caveat, though. With so much initiating energy around, it may seem as if everyone wants things to happen now, or even before. Since Aries prizes immediacy, impatience and/or bursts of anger—within your self or expressed by others—may be heightened around this time. While the go-get-‘em energy instilled by this New Moon can help motivate us into a challenge, rushing can often lead to rashness, a surefire prescription for stress and accidents.

This may be especially noticeable in that warrior Mars, the planetary ruler of Aries, is uniting with Uranus. The planet of liberation and revolution, Uranus also inspires erratic behavior and out-of-the-blue actions. When Mars and Uranus come together—today in the sign of Aries, nonetheless—people may act in unexpected ways. There’s a fierce surge of energy, a desire to assert one self in the moment—we do what feels right, what feels like needs to be done, without necessarily considering the outcome or consequences beyond the moment.

This, of course, can be incredibly powerful. The aim of Uranus, after all, is to liberate a sense of imposed restraint that keeps us from individuating, so that we can tap into our core uniqueness. It’s just that the path to freedom oftentimes involves shocks and surprises, since this is what helps us to break free of patterns, the “shoulds” that we have picked up along the way.

Adding to the mix is the prominence of the planet Saturn, which opposes the New Moon. Some may experience this as a sense of frustration and limitation. We want to express ourselves, to break out of old ways. Yet, Saturn reminds us that we can’t throw all caution to the win, that there’s a need to respect responsibilities and natural law.

So how does initiation, raw drive, and a renegade spirit express itself when there are boundaries and limits, without feeling incredibly frustrated? Instead of Saturn being a negative, the “you can’t do this” archetype, consider it to be a valuable teacher that can help you shape what you are creating. Have it help you consciously approach the available energies of the day, allowing you to consider how to build structures in your life that allow you to connect to your authentic self. Use its energies to help you carve out a path that lets you express your individuality. Connect into the time-keeper element of Saturn to inspire you to figure out how you schedule your time so that you can actually enjoy more freedom each day. Instead of feeling a great sense of frustration and/or defeat today, do the work you need so that you can truly forge something new, something that isn’t just momentary but which will serve you for as long as you choose it to.

As if this weren’t enough to consider for the day, there is yet one more incredibly important influencing factor. Tomorrow, Neptune moves out of Aquarius—where it has resided since 1998—into its home sign of Pisces (it’s here for a few month, formally entering the sign again for an extended stay in February 2012).

And with this planetary shift, we may feel as if we’re floating in a sea of unboundedness. One manifestation of this energy is spaciness and confusion, or the desire to escape, to not want to deal with things that seem unseemly. Yet, the Neptune in Pisces energy can also serve as a reservoir for open-hearted compassion and a deep and unwavering sense of love. If things seem intense today (and actually even if everything seems to be flowing pretty wonderfully), connect into this aspect of Pisces Neptune—open up to the notion of the abundant beauty, grace, and love that resides within and connects us all.

This month’s New Moon falls at 14 degrees of Aries (the location of both the Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Aries or the other cardinal signs—Cancer, Libra, Capricorn—it may impact you more intensely.

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Aries rules the head, muscles, and circulatory system. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Impatiens flower essence: As its name implies, Impatiens flower essence help quell impatience, one of the premier characteristics associated with Aries. So, if you find yourself being overly impetuous or running a short fuse, consider this remedy. Take a few drops several times a day until you feel the impatience lifting. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

Scalp massage: Start your New Moon morning with a scalp massage. It’s simple to do and only takes a few minutes. Just take a nourishing oil (such as coconut or avocado) and rub it into your scalp before you shampoo your hair. Start at your hairline and work backwards toward the nape of your neck, rubbing your scalp with moderate pressure in small circular motions. For additional scalp-health benefits, add some rosemary essential oil to the massage blend. Regular scalp massages—which you can even do without the oil—can help stimulate circulation, alleviate tension, and reduce flaky scalp conditions.

April 17, 2011: Aries/Libra Full Moon (exact at 7:44 pm PDT)

The Aries/Libra Full Moon calls upon us to integrate our desires with those of the people with whom we are in relationship. It can help us gain insight into whether our approach to accommodating our needs and those of others is a balanced one or whether the scale is tipped to one side. (For example, do we over accommodate others to the detriment of own needs, or vice versa?) Additionally, it’s an opportunity to inventory whether we are being our true selves when relating to others rather than being the person we think they want us to be.

Different people draw out distinct parts of who we are. With some people, we may find ourselves more connected to our humorous side, others our serious nature, and with others our adventurous disposition. Use the Full Moon energies to get a sense of which aspects of yourself are brought to light when interacting with different friends and family members as well as your romantic partner(s).

In addition, the day is colored by the energies of the Mars/Saturn opposition that is exact tomorrow. This may be experienced a perception that there are impediments to fully exerting your will. It could seem that at every corner there’s a roadblock or a proverbial “Do Not Enter” sign.

Instead of spiraling in frustration, see if you can take another approach to expressing your self, asserting your desire to achieve what you want. Consider whether the “No”s that you are experiencing are actually “Yes”s in disguise. Meaning, if something you are pursuing still eludes you no matter how forcefully you try to attain it, could it potentially be because it truly is not aligned with who you are and what you need. Consider whether it may, in fact, be a signal that there is actually another path to take, a different door to open. Be open to the idea that there may be another option that would actually better reflect a more productive and fulfilling use of your time, energy, and resources. This may require some re-assessment of goals, re-evaluation of desire, re-alignment of strategies…but it could be work that may be incredibly well worth doing.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 28 degrees of Aries (Sun) and Libra (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Aries, Libra, or the other cardinal signs—Cancer and Capricorn—it may impact you more intensely.

Full Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Aries is associated with the head, muscles, and circulatory system while Libra is associated with the skin, lower back, and blood sugar balance. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body and areas of health around the time of this Full Moon.

Exercise with a friend: Looking for an additional spark of motivation to help your spring get-in-shape resolution get underway? Instead of going solo to that yoga class or taking a walk alone in the park, invite a friend. Not only will the exercise pump your blood, work your muscles, and regulate your blood sugar, but you’ll get to enjoy it while having a social experience, which is always nice to do when Libran energy is around.

Don’t forget to eat: Both Aries as well as Full Moons bring out ramped-up energy. While you may feel a go-go-go rush in the air today, don’t let it distract you from eating nutritious well-balanced meals. If not, you’re more likely to be on a blood sugar rollercoaster with crashes followed by quick carb-infused highs, potentially leading to the headaches and that “brain fog” feeling that come with glucose swings. If you know you are going to be on-the-go all day, pack snacks such as trail mix, goji berries, or mini PB+J sandwiches.
