Weekly Astrological Insights: June 21-27, 2010

Posted June 20, 2010

There are so very many astrological alignments this week that it portends to be a very intense, provocative, and transformational period of time. One of the [many] themes that has been emerging as the planets have taken up residence along the Cardinal Axis is of the importance of being fluid, flexible, and adaptive, and honoring burst of insights that may arise even if they call upon us to change the way we typically approach facets of our life. This is notably true this week as Monday, the day of the Solstice, we experience the Sun squaring inventive Uranus. As such, this week’s Astrological Insights are presented differently. Not only does it feature this introduction which you are now reading, but each day is composed in poetic rather than prose form. This is where the spirit took me, which I felt compelled to honor. For those who want to know the astrological alignments of the day, I have included them as tags underneath each of the separate Daily Astrological Insights.

Be well….

Monday, June 21

Break out.
Connect in.
Trust you know.
Tell someone you love them.
Celebrate the solstice.

Tuesday, June 22

You want to know.
Just ask
Someone you trust.
An ancestor
Whose wisdom lives within.
Or a teacher who carries authentic knowledge
That deeply resonates with you.

Wednesday, June 23

Room to grow.
Room with a view.
Know your limits
Then push through them a bit.
Respect them with consciousness
But don’t let them limit you.

Thursday, June 24

Say it.
Thoughtfully.
Concretely.
Constructively.
Your wisdom is there
To share.
Find your guide.
Your inner muse.
And use it
For good.
The world needs you.
And you need the world.

Friday, June 25

The Purge.
Say goodbye to the old that doesn’t serve you.
Say hello to the new
That deep in your heart
You know will.
The cycle of life.
Remembering that
Ends always yield beginnings
Is critical, essential
Now.
As is
Having faith.

Saturday, June 26

In the rays
Of the Full Moon
Lunar Eclipse
We can find the rays
Of illumination
Deep within.

Read here for [much] more about this celestial event.

Sunday, June 27

While the sticks-and-stone childhood ditty
Told us that words can never harm
Thoughts expressed aloud, on paper, in lyric
Are wondrously powerful
And can tear down form,
Transform structure
So that the new can emerge.
If compassion is held
At all times
Words that destruct old
Can actually construct new.
When the beacon of honesty calls
Don’t forget its trusted companion is love.

Astrological Insights for 4 August 2009

There’s pre-eclipse energy in the air. As we prepare for tomorrow’s Full Moon eclipse, here’s an exercise to focus upon to help keep you centered.

Imagine you are in a large room with other people, standing several feet in front of a mirror and looking through a camera with a powerful wide-angle zoom lens. Zoom in so that you can focus in on yourself. Take a moment to appreciate your uniqueness and the special place that you command through your viewfinder. Next, adjust the lever so that you zoom out all the way, allowing your field of vision to take in the whole room. Reflect upon how you, like the others you see, play an integral role in the larger collective that you can now perceive.

Throughout the day visualize this zooming in and zooming out, appreciating both yourself as an individual and as a member of a larger whole. This exercise can help you to integrate the energies of today, a presage to tomorrow’s Leo/Aquarius Full Moon, where the emphasis is on not losing sight of the I for the We, or the We for the I.

August 5, 2009: Leo /Aquarius Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (exact at 5:55 pm PDT)

Today’s Full Moon marks the final of this season’s three eclipses (the others occurred on July 7 and July 21). Even if we can’t see an eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse signifies a period when things come to fruition. It portends an auspicious time to let go of something that is outworn, whether it be a possession, a habit, a limiting belief, or a relationship that doesn’t serve your highest good. Additionally, eclipses provide a great opportunity for outward manifestation with life-changing events—sometimes expected, sometimes not—often happening around this time.

As this is the last of the season’s eclipses, a situation that was catalyzed at the beginning of last month may reach a level of closure or completion. Use the energies carried within the marriage of Leo and Aquarius—an ability to perceive the unique gifts and qualities that you embody—to help you close one chapter of your life so that another one, which will more gracefully align with your heart’s desires, can emerge.

During a Leo/Aquarius Full Moon, issues involving individuals and their relationship to the collective become the center of attention. If you are involved in any groups or associations, you may perceive a heightened sense of tension as the organization strives to accommodate the needs of its members along with its own overarching identity and goals. Yet, if outstanding issues are worked upon, there can be great breakthroughs in group dynamics and team building.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 14 degrees of Leo (Sun) and Aquarius (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Leo, Aquarius, or the other fixed signs—Taurus and Scorpio—it may impact you more intensely. Also, take note of the house in your personal astrology chart that the eclipse falls in as it represents an arena of your life that will hold special import over the next 6 months.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Leo is associated with the heart, spine, and hair while Aquarius is associated with the calves, ankles, peripheral circulatory system, and the body’s bionergetics. Pay extra attention to these areas of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Listen to world music: As Leo is the sign of the creative arts, and Aquarius the sign of humanity’s collective vision, listening to music from other countries is a relaxation practice that aligns with the energy of this Full Moon. Whether it be Jamaican ska, Portuguese fado, Senegalese mbalax, or any international genre, music can bring great joy and help us open up our heart.

Quaking Grass flower essence: Quaking Grass is a wonderful remedy to help inspire harmonious group dynamics. It helps individuals maintain a sense of balanced self when in a collective and yet see themselves as a part of something much larger than just themselves. While the essence can be taken by an individual, it can also be used it as a room spray (mix a few drops into a water-filled mister bottle) as a way to foster a more productive, as well as heartfelt, group process. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

August 20, 2009: Leo New Moon (exact at 3:02 am PDT)

During the Leo New Moon, we have the opportunity to shine. There’s an ebullient child-like energy that draws forth the playful and creative self that resides within. As this New Moon is opposing numinous Neptune, we have a greater ability to capture and communicate unseen feelings and emotions—those within our self and/or others. If you’ve been looking for a time to begin a project of artistry, one where you can call forth ideas and visions and create them into physical form, this New Moon serves as an auspicious time.

Leo is a sign connected with celebration while Neptune quests for significance. Taken together, this New Moon is a wonderful time to focus on what it is in our life that gives us meaning and rejoice in our ability to have a meaningful life.

This combination of astrological energies may also leave us in a regaling Catch-22. While it inspires a greater desire for cocktails and carousing, with Neptune’s boundary-blurry effects, alcohol can have a greater impact on our psyches and bodies during this time. Take precautions knowing that your judgment as well as how you feel the morning-after may be more clouded than usual.

This month’s New Moon falls at 28 degrees of Leo (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Leo or the other fixed signs—Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius—it may impact you more intensely. (This also applies to those with pivotal points or planets within the first few degrees of the mutable signs—Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.)

New Moon Apothecary Suggestions

Leo rules the heart, spine, and hair. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Neroli essential oil: This romantic scent from the leaves of the Seville orange tree is a delightful—and therapeutic—one to enjoy during this New Moon. Neroli helps to inspire a sense of calm and joy. It has cooling properties so if you feel yourself overinflamed in mind, body, or heart, neroli may provide you with great fragrant benefits. Placing a drop above your heart and wearing as a perfume or using in a room diffuser are two ways to enjoy this beautiful scent.

Drink water: Since the planet Neptune, named after the Roman god of the seas, has watery qualities, ensuring you drink enough water today is a great wellness strategy. It will keep you hydrated, help cool you down should you feel any excess heat, and also keep your elimination and detoxification channels working better.

August 21, 2009: Uranus Opposite Mercury

This is the first of three times that Uranus and Mercury will be in this alignment in the coming months. September 23 and October 4 mark the other two.

When Uranus opposes Mercury, the air feels electrifying. It is as if there are sparks of ideas around each corner, with new thoughts seemingly coming out of the blue. With so many lightbulb-above-your-head flashes of insights occurring, it’s a good idea to have flexibility and a bit of detachment. Therefore, now may not be the best time to act on the information you receive. Rather, collect the ideas in a reservoir from which you can siphon them off, evaluating and analyzing each one to see whether it has lasting value or was just one of those great-in-the-moment ideas. If you’re traveling around this date, expect that there may be unexpected delays or inconveniences.

While the flurry of input during a Uranus/Mercury opposition can be exciting and stimulating, the buzziness it creates may tax our nervous system. As such, try to pay extra attention to this part of your body around the time of this astrological alignment.

Uranus Opposite Mercury Apothecary Suggestions

Limit caffeine intake: As a way to mollify your nerves, limiting caffeine intake may be of benefit. Instead of a second (or even first) cup of joe, try some yerba mate or green tea instead. Both have less caffeine than coffee but provide a steady energy boost. If you want to go the caffeine-free route, try rooibos or decaf green tea. Tisanes—made from soothing chamomile, lavender, or lemon balm—are a delicious way to enjoy additional calm.

Qigong: As we’re more connected to energetics during this planetary alignment, it may be a great time to practice qigong. A form of moving meditation, qigong focuses on cultivating and circulating qi, the body’s life force energy. You can find information on qigong in books and DVDs but it’s best to first practice with a skilled teacher who can show you proper techniques and sequencing.

August 26, 2009: Pluto Square Mercury

Just a few days after Uranus opposes Mercury, the planet of communication aligns with Pluto, the planet of the unseen depths. This is the first of three times that Pluto and Mercury will square each other in the coming months. September 17 and October 10 marks the other times.

This astrological alignment gives us support to dig deep within ourselves and find the words and images that allow us to more honestly convey our ideas and feelings. Words, images, music, and other carriers of information have great power and when Pluto and Mercury are in relationship we are reminded of that.

It’s important to be especially conscious when you communicate with others during this time. While you may think you are “just talking,” others will assign great significance to what you say. Additionally, there’s the potential for buried emotions—such as hurt, anger, or resentment—to bubble up from deep within and color our communication; be aware of this in yourself and others. This connection to the deep parts of ourselves, though, can be really constructive if you are involved in any sort of therapeutic work as this period may offer you an opening to plumb the depths of your psyche even more.

Pluto Square Mercury Apothecary Suggestions

Read a myth: Mythic stories are not only entertaining but convey deep meaning related to being human. Encapsulated within are representations of archetypes that represent the sacred as well as the human psyche. Reading myths—regardless of the culture from which they originate—is a powerful way for us to connect with a level of deep understanding about ourselves and others, making it a great relaxation practice during this time.

Calendula flower essence: If your communication is tinged with feelings of anger or resentment that are coloring your discourse, consider Calendula flower essence. It can help channel that energy so that more compassion comes through with your words while also instilling a greater level of receptivity when dialoguing with others. (Flower essences are made from flower-infused water and work energetically to restore emotional and mental balance. You can find them in natural food stores or holistic pharmacies.)

Cancer New Moon Solar Eclipse

July 21, 2009: Cancer New Moon Solar Eclipse (exact at 7:35 pm PDT)

Today’s New Moon is also an eclipse, the second of this season’s three (July 7 and August 5 mark the other two). Even if we can’t see an eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

A New Moon Solar Eclipse signifies a time for beginnings. While something may inherently be coming to a close, there is great focus on the initiation of the new that it brings. Like Lunar Eclipses, a Solar Eclipse is often accompanied by identifiable life-changing events that manifest around the time of this celestial happening.

This Cancer New Moon provides an opportunity to resolve familial wounds. This is not only because Cancer is the sign of the family, the home, and the past, but also because this is the second New Moon in this sign this summer. Reflecting back to the other one that occurred on June 22 can provide you with insights as to the issues that may re-arise—and potentially come to closure—during this time.

The great emphasis on healing also occurs because Jupiter and Chiron are also conjunct today (with their traveling partner this year, idealistic Neptune, close by). Chiron helps us to identify the areas of our lives where our wounds-would-be-strengths lie. Jupiter not only expands that which it touches but is also the planet of the scholar, s/he who awards lessons of wisdom. Taken together, we have the opportunity to become more aware of our personal Achille’s heel and learn what it may need for healing. As this day also heralds a square between Saturn and Venus, it is likely that the issues will center on women relatives or the way in which we relate to females in our lives, including our own feminine spirit (anima).

This month’s New Moon falls at 29 degrees of Cancer (Sun and Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of the New Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Cancer or the other cardinal signs—Aries, Libra, Capricorn—it may impact you more intensely. (This also applies to those with pivotal points or planets within the first few degrees of the fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.) Also, take note of the house in your personal astrology chart that the eclipse falls in as it represents an arena of your life that will hold special import over the next 6 months.

New Moon Solar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Cancer rules the stomach, sinuses, body fluids, and breasts. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this New Moon.

Jasmine essential oil: As the jasmine flower is governed by the Moon—the planetary ruler of Cancer—enjoying its aroma can help support the energetics of this Solar Eclipse. Jasmine has a rapturous fragrance that arouses our ability to connect to the feminine spirit within us. It’s a lauded aphrodisiac as well. Use it as perfume, combine it with body oil for a sensuality-inspiring massage, or sprinkle a few drops in a bath and soak in its feminine revelry.

Brassica vegetables: Enjoy some Brassica vegetables—such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, or watercress—during this New Moon. Not only are these vegetables incredibly healthy, but they are also ruled by Cancer in medical astrology. In addition to fiber, vitamins, and minerals, they are concentrated in powerful sulfur-containing nutrients. These phytonutrients are thought to be cancer preventive and help the liver detoxify chemicals. They can be delicious raw; for example, broccoli with dip makes a healthy snack and chiffonaded pieces of kale are a great addition to a salad. Cooking them into delicious dishes is also easy. For example, try roasted cauliflower. Or steam mustard or collard greens and top them with lemon, olive oil, and sea salt for a quick-and-easy side dish.

July 7, 2009: Cancer /Capricorn Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (exact at 2:21 am PDT)

Today’s Full Moon initiates the first of this season’s three eclipses (July 21 and August 5 mark the other two). Even if we can’t see an eclipse in the sky where we live, these celestial events are renowned for being very powerful in the way in which they can impact our lives.

A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse signifies a time when things come to fruition.

Issues of security are brought to the forefront during the Cancer/Capricorn Full Moon. It urges us to look at our life through the lens of the questions, “Where do I feel at home?” and “How can I feel more safe and protected regardless of where I am?” In pure Capricorn fashion, these aren’t light-hearted questions, but they are ones whose answers can provide us with the riches of insight to live a more integrated and productive life.

With this Full Moon, we are reminded that while the past is essential, it’s important not to wallow in it. What came before may be an integral part of who you are but don’t let it pull you from the joys of the present. “Be here now,” as Ram Dass is famous for saying and recognize that that which you may have inherited is only one aspect of you, and one that you can channel to help you build your own personal legacy.

This month’s Full Moon falls at 15 degrees of Cancer (Sun) and Capricorn (Moon). While everyone experiences the energies of a Full Moon, if you have planets or pivotal points (i.e., Ascendant/Descendant or Nadir/Midheaven) around this degree in Cancer, Capricorn, or the other cardinal signs—Aries and Libra—it may impact you more intensely. Also, take note of the houses in your personal astrology chart that the eclipse falls in as these represent arenas of your life that will hold special import over the next 6 months.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse Apothecary Suggestions

Cancer is associated with the stomach, sinuses, body fluids, and breasts while Capricorn is associated with the skin, skeletal system, and joints. Pay extra attention to these parts of the body around the time of this Full Moon.

Skin scrub: With Capricorn ruling the skin and the Crab—the symbol for Cancer—famous for its molting, why not do a skin scrub ritual during this Full Moon. Sloughing away dead skin cells enhances circulation, reduces clogged pores, and allows the skin to breath better, improving our detoxification capacity. It also makes the skin more radiant and allows it to hold onto more moisture. Exfoliate the skin after several minutes in a hot shower or bath, or if you prefer do dry brushing before you bathe. Skin scrubbing tools—such as brushes and mitts made from sisal or nylon—are available in many beauty stores and natural foods markets.

Turtle meditation: The turtle, the animal which carries his home on his back no matter where he travels, is a great image to focus upon during this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. Invoke the image of the turtle today in your meditation, or even just look at pictures and read about these wise hard-shelled animals. The turtle is a great symbol of inner wisdom, a deliberate approach to life, and the sense of self-protection inherent within all of us.

July 10, 2009: Jupiter Conjunct Neptune

This is the second of the three cosmological meetings this year of the planets Jupiter and Neptune (the first occurred on May 27, the last will be on December 21). It’s a day that may feel dreamy but one that will remind you that your dreams can become reality.

What happens when hopeful and visionary Jupiter dances in the sky with imaginative and spiritually inclined Neptune? You may feel captured by a sense of romanticism that infuses even the most mundane with a sense of poetics. You may find yourself drawn to music, color, and images—rather than solely to words—when expressing your thoughts and feelings. You may experience especially vivid dreams, as your subconscious mind more strongly pierces the veil of your conscious mind during sleep.

Yet, take heed: Jupiter conjunct Neptune can usher in the trio of “sion”s: confusion, delusion, and illusion. Due diligence is even more important during this time so that you can best tune into the “reality” of what is occurring.

However the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction individually manifests for you, one thing is for sure: both these planets carry an “up, up, and away” energy and so it’s important to stay open to their inspiration but grounded at the same time.

Jupiter Conjunct Neptune Apothecary Suggestions

Walk and soak: Tune into your body and ensure your feet are planted firmly on the earth. One way to do so would be to start your day with a brisk walk. Afterwards, soak your feet in a warm salt-water tub infused with your favorite essential oil while you meditate on your goals for the day and dreams for your life.

Holy basil: Also known as tulsi, holy basil makes a delicious non-caffeinated “tea” that provides a meditative sense of centering while at the same time boosting the immune system and helping the body guard against stress. Holy basil is delicious hot or prepared as iced tea.
